Spectrum’s collaboration as a resource in “Multi-stakeholders Workshop on Clean Cookstoves"

Spectrum participated as a resource in a multi-stakeholders workshop organized

by Mercy Corps and Forest Department aiming to reflect the current situation of clean cooking sector in Myanmar. The workshop was conducted at Mandalay Hotel, Mandalay on 16th, October, 2018 with the participation of more than 100 people from government agencies, international organizations, stove-producers, dealers, distributors and media.

The workshop was intended for exchanging experiences among cookstove actors and providing recommendations for strengthening clean cooking sector in Myanmar. At the opening ceremony of the workshop, Mandalay regional MONREC minister H.E Myo Thit, Forest Department Director U Tint Swe and Mercy Corps Myanmar’s Country Representative Mr. Leo Roozendaal  gave opening remarks respectively.

Spectrum’s Energy and Green Growth Advisor, U Thet Zaw Htwe presented “Clean Cooking Energy need of Myanmar” at the sharing session highlighting the alternative options of modern clean energy cooking solutions. In his presentation, he discussed on cooking energy demand and sources as well as unsustainable harvesting of fuel-wood for cooking. 

Moreover, Spectrum’s Energy and Green Growth Advisor pointed out that there are many initiatives and planning overlapped in this sector as a result of a lack of coordination among important stakeholders.  And he suggested establishing a national level agency for better cooperation and developing concrete national clean cooking strategy.

In addition, Spectrum displayed and distributed energy related briefer series containing Element of a National Clean Cooking Strategy for Myanmar, Developing a Renewable Energy Policy for Myanmar, Household lighting and Children’s Education, Women and Clean Cook Stoves, Switching from Candles to Solar Energy for Lighting and Women and Electricity and a movie called “Cooking in the Clouds”.
