Integrity Building & Anti-Corruption

"Corruption hinders administration and human rights and degenerates the economy, the political process and the dignity of countries affected by it."

"Corruption is a threat to development, democracy and stability. It distorts markets, curbs economic growth and discourages foreign investment. It erodes public services and trust in officials. And it contributes to environmental damage and endangers public health..."

Ban Ki-moon, UN Secretary General, 3 December 2010

In 2013, the Director of Myanmar's Bureau of Special Investigation, Ministry of Home Affairs, Myo Khaing Swe, in his paper Anti-Corruption Efforts in Myanmar wrote:

"Even though every Government in Myanmar has conducted the fight against corruption, it has not disappeared. Some of the public servants have been committing the offence by neglecting their own dignity as public servants and the State and disregarding the laws. Therefore, corruption is now expanding as a culture. Misappropriation of power and bribery are of key interest to the public. Corruption hinders administration and human rights and degenerates the economy, the political process and the dignity of countries affected by it."

Spectrum recognises how destructive corruption is in undermining economic justice, the reform process and all aspects of good governance practice. We aim to help the overall and long-term process of building integrity to help counter corruption.

We have translated four key works on building integrity into Myanmar language and distributed them extensively. Research conducted to date will help focus our work and plan future work. We aim to cooperate with many groups in the quest to build integrity as a route to fight corruption.
